My Favourite Books of Summer 2020

Adele Parks- Just My Luck

It’s the stuff dreams are made of – a lottery win so big, it changes everything.

For fifteen years, Lexi and Jake have played the same six numbers with their friends, the Pearsons and the Heathcotes. Over dinner parties, fish & chip suppers and summer barbecues, they’ve discussed the important stuff – the kids, marriages, jobs and houses – and they’ve laughed off their disappointment when they failed to win anything more than a tenner. But then, one Saturday night, the unthinkable happens. There’s a rift in the group. Someone doesn’t tell the truth. And soon after, six numbers come up which change everything forever. Lexi and Jake have a ticket worth £18 million. And their friends are determined to claim a share of it.

What did I think?

Adele, multi-million bestselling author, explores relationships, money and ultimate betrayal. I read this sat out in the garden with my feet dipped in my pool whilst enjoying the sunshine, a perfect backdrop for this story. I loved getting to know the characters and how their relationships developed. It had me gripped from the beginning, I couldn’t put the book down. There were lots of twists and turns that explored secrets, betrayal, envy and wealth. Be careful what you wish for, sometimes money can turn good people, bad. Imagine being rich beyond your wildest dreams, you can buy anything you want! This book explored the dark side of having more than you ever wished for. What would you do if you won the lottery? How do you think it will change your life? Would it change your life for the better or worse? I would recommend this book, it was my most favourite read of Summer 2020.

Adele Parks- Lies, Lies, Lies

My next favourite book of Summer 2020 was Lies Lies Lies (gifted).

Daisy and Simon’s marriage is great, isn’t it? After years together, the arrival of longed-for daughter Millie sealed everything in place. A happy little family of three. And so what if Simon drinks a bit too much sometimes – Daisy’s used to it, she knows he’s letting off steam. Until one night at a party things spiral horribly out of control. And that happy little family of three will never be the same again.

What did I think?

We learn of the difficulties faced with Simons alcoholism and Daisy’s struggle to hold her family together. This was another book full of twists and turns, a gripping storyline and a fabulous ending. Adele’s writing style is so easy to get along with, she tells the story from different characters points of view so you get all sides of the story. Its brilliant how it all goes together into one story. If you like to be immersed in a good book that you can’t put down. With a brilliant story line and one that takes you away from day to day life, Adele Parks is your perfect author. Romantic stories with a hint of a thriller.
