A Day In The Life Of….A Lash Technician

Welcome to Day 2 of 7- A Day In The Life Of…..

Today’s post is by the beautiful Keely. Keely is a lash technician based in a year old business in Rotherham, near Parkgate Retail World.

My job title at the moment is Lash Technician, although I was previously a Makeup Artist and Beautician, before I found my love for lashes. I still do makeup and beauty treatments but mainly do lashes. I’m also amazing at creating gory makeup looks for Halloween.

I’m definitely not a morning person, so I like to set my alarm as late as possible. Usually, my first client is at 9am so i’ll wake up around 7:30am to give myself time to make a cuppa, get ready and drive down to work for around 8.45am.

The first part of the day usually goes quite quickly, a typical full set of lash extensions takes around 2 hours and a lash lift is about an hour. I have a few of these booked in then it takes me up to around 11am – lunch time. I love a Staniforths, around the corner from the salon. My favourite is a ham salad sandwich, sausage roll and a pepsi max.

After I’ve booked in a slot for lunch, i’ll try to fill my diary with as many clients as I can to fill up my day. I usually finish work between 5-6pm. It’s only a short drive home so after I’ve helped lock up the salon, I get home around half 6. First thing i’ll do is get my jammies on.

For dinner, I can’t say we don’t have takeaway most nights (oops) but I do actually really enjoy cooking, we love sesame chicken and rice, and anything with garlic bread.

After dinner I love to chill. I like to have a nice bath and get my skincare routine done. As I’m a night owl, not an early bird, I’ll usually go to bed at around 11pm but i’ll most likely not go to sleep til 1am.

I’ve a new found love for baking and we love going bowling at the weekends (when it’s open).

My greatest achievement was getting my first house at 18. I became so much more of an adult, and found the value of money too.

If you are interested in being a lash technician my advice would be you need to be able to learn quick, it takes a lot of commitment, practice and most of all patience. You also need to be a people person with brilliant customer service skills.

My ultimate goal, I’d love to be seen as a top UK lash tech. Annabelle who owns the salon is an incredible lash artist and teacher. I know with her mentoring me and with my experience and skills, I will get there.

I wasn’t sure about my spirit animal so I took an online quiz – it says i’m a wolf! “The power of the wolf brings forth instinct, intelligence, appetite for freedom, and awareness of the importance of social connections. When the wolf shows up in your life, pay attention to what your intuition is telling you”.

My biggest strength is if I want something I won’t give up until I’ve got it. I like to think of myself as somebody who thrives off achieving goals but my biggest weakness is that I can’t say no which means i’m always helping people and working hard.

Planning my working week is pretty easy actually, we have an online diary for all bookings so I know what i’m doing, when i’m doing it and who i’m doing it for. This needs to be easy as i’m so busy all week.

Thanks for reading, check back tomorrow for another day in the life of….

  1. Great to meet you Keely!! I was a cosmetologist for a short time and I loved it, I imagine you have fun at work. You should be so proud of yourself, you are a smart young lady. I think the wolf is the perfect spirit animal. You are hunting your dreams🤣🤣
