10 Products To Help You Save Our Beautiful World

If there are any companies out there that have got it right when it comes to saving the planet, it has to be Lush. They have so many plastic free, packaging free, pampering products.

Founded in 1995 in Poole, 25 year old Lush have over 900 shops across the world. Lush are regularly publicising environmental campaigns, in 2012 a live human testing scene was installed in their regent street shop, protesting against testing on animals and saving the environment. All their ingredients are fresh and organic and they strive to lead the cosmetics revolution to save the planet.

The inspiration for finding these products came from the lockdown times we experienced. Back in April when the streets were empty, carbon emissions fell sharply and the world was beautiful. Rivers started returning to their natural clear states. Wildlife was free to roam again and my asthma was nearly none existent. It got me interested in what was out there and was there more we could do.

Here are my reviews of ten packaging free products from Lush:

1. Solid Deodrant- Aromaco

The UK uses around 600 million aerosols a year. They can be difficult to recycle and the spray releases harmful gases. A recent study showed that if one million people switched their regular aerosol for a newer, compressed aerosol then 696 tonnes of CO2 emissions could be saved.

Aromaco deodorant is somewhere between a cream and roll-on, with ingredients such as herbal infusions and antibacterial essential oils. I used this product for a week, including during a mini heatwave. I was surprised by the results. It smelt strange, not particularly scented or fresh. I loved the smell once I applied it and it mixed with my natural smell. I felt fresh, my armpits were dry all day and it felt like it had moisturised my armpits. It felt great after shaving and lessened the irritation I sometimes get. I don’t think I will go back to my aerosol spray after using this, I love this product. I definitely recommend that everyone tries this. I’m also asthmatic and aerosol spray does make my symptoms worse but this didn’t affect me at all. Winner! 5/5

2. Shower Bomb- Sleepy

I love these, if you want something different to a bath bomb or prefer a shower, I recommend these. I tried the sleepy shower bomb and slept so well. It smelt gorgeous with the lavender, ylang ylang and tonka. Exfoliating and moisturising, this softened my skin beautifully. The smell lingered whilst I drifted into a lovely sleep. Soothing, anti inflammatory and relaxing. Looking forward to using the not sleepy and comfort zone ones. 5/5

3. Toner Tabs- Tea tree & Dream Steam

I dropped these into a bowl of hot water and felt the steam open up my pores, the tea tree fragrance of the tea tree tab was relaxing and I could feel the antibacterial and antiseptic properties working. It was the same effect as being sat in a steam room. I love that you can bottle the remaining toner in a spray bottle for use later on. I need to stock up on these, they really unclog the skin and make it feel lighter and brighter. Dream Steam tabs have chamomile in them which is great for soothing skin. These feel like you are giving your skin a good detox. 5/5

4. Solid Highlighter- Egret Glow Stick

Who knew that Lush did makeup? I didn’t as I usually rush for the bath bombs and don’t look for anything else. They have highlighters available in different colours, I chose the egret one as I like the pearly shimmer look. This made my skin soft and I loved the effect. Shimmery, radiant skin. Layer up to get the effect you want, apply to the skin and blend with a brush. 5/5

5. Solid Perfumes- Vanillary & Lust

Vanillary ingredients are Vanilla, Jasmine & Tonka- I do love a vanilla scent and this is perfect, not too sweet but nice and floral. I love this one and would definitely buy again, it lasted all day and its a brilliant size for popping into a small bag when travelling.

Lust ingredients are Jasmine, Rose & Ylang Ylang- I love ylang ylang but unfortunately this scent wasn’t quite to my liking, it was quite strong so its good if you like a strong smell, I prefer something sweeter smelling. Again, a great size for popping into a bag when travelling. I would like to try the Karma version as this has good reviews. I did miss my usual perfume so wouldn’t buy these all the time. 3/5

6. Facial Soap- Coalface

This facial soap is ideal for oily skin and if you want to get that squeaky clean feeling. One side of the soap is exfoliating and the other is smooth so you can have each or both depending what you need. The powdered charcoal and liquorice work together to make your skin feel soft and deep cleansed. Would have liked a stronger fragrance. 4/5

7. Hot Oil- Yuge

This made my dry hair feel soft, half fill a cup with hot water and leave space at the top as it foams quite a lot. You don’t need much on your hair and wait till it cools a bit before applying. This lasted a while as once made up you can store it for a few days. Didn’t particularly like the smell or feel but my hair felt soft, shiny and much more manageable. 3/5

8. Conditioner Bar- Big

I absolutely love the smell of this, unfortunately its quite hard and is tricky to apply to your hair. I’m hoping once I use it more, it might soften a little bit. Takes a while to get it into your hair but once it does it makes your hair soft and tangle free. This will last ages as you don’t need much of it. The sea salt, jojoba and coconut oil smell lovely. This would be great to take camping. 3/5

9. Bath Bombs

I love a nice bath bomb, mainly during the winter for long hot baths. I love all Lush bath bombs but my favourites are twilight, deep sleep, butterball and the comforter. My absolute favourite is the avobath. I love anything with the smell of lemongrass in and lemongrass is an antiseptic. 5/5

10. Naked Cleansing Balm- Sleepy Face

This felt amazing on my face, I do love a cleansing balm. It was quite lightweight and easy to apply. Warm it in your hands and massage into your face. You don’t need a lot so it last for a long time. Its packed full of of natural Cocoa and Shea butters. The essential oils calm the skin down and soothe the mind. Wipe away with a damp reusable cotton pad, I like these as they are washable and kind to skin. Wasn’t so great for oily skin but would be perfect for dry skin. 4/5

  1. I love Lush! I also use the Aromaco deodorant. I have tried many natural deodorants and it is the best one by far. My daughters and I also use their shampoo bars. My favourit is Honey I Washed My Hair. I have been using the Jungle conditioner bar which I really like but it is being discontinued. ☹️ That is one thing I don’t like about Lush. They often discontinue products which is really tough when you find something you like.

  2. I think it’s becoming more and more important that brands reduce packaging and become more eco-friendly. I’m definitely more conscious of it now and lean towards brands that are doing their bit. I’ve never been a big fan of Lush products, but they have always been ahead of the game with reduced packaging.
