What if winning means losing everything?
A gripping story of greed, lies and dark family secrets
It’s the stuff dreams are made of – a lottery win so big, it changes everything.
For fifteen years, Lexi and Jake have played the same six numbers with their friends, the Pearsons and the Heathcotes. Over dinner parties, fish & chip suppers and summer barbecues, they’ve discussed the important stuff – the kids, marriages, jobs and houses – and they’ve laughed off their disappointment when they failed to win anything more than a tenner. But then, one Saturday night, the unthinkable happens. There’s a rift in the group. Someone doesn’t tell the truth. And soon after, six numbers come up which change everything forever. Lexi and Jake have a ticket worth £18 million. And their friends are determined to claim a share of it.
Adele explores the relationships, money and ultimate betrayal.
What did I think?
I read this sat out in the garden whilst enjoying the sunshine, a perfect backdrop for this story. I loved getting to know the characters and how their relationships developed. It had me gripped from the beginning, I couldn’t put the book down. There were lots of twists and turns that explored secrets, betrayal, envy and wealth. Be careful what you wish for, sometimes money can turn good people, bad. Imagine being rich beyond your wildest dreams, you can buy anything you want! This book explored the dark side of having more than you ever wished for.
I would recommend this book, it certainly left me feeling like I would want to see it remade as a film.
To celebrate the novels success, Adele asked her readers to take part in a fun challenge- to recreate the book cover.
Here’s my version:
My next book was Adele’s previous book, Lies Lies Lies. Adele kindly sent me a surprise signed copy which I will forever treasure- I had given a copy of ‘Just My Luck’ away in a competition I held for ‘buy a stranger a book day’.
Daisy and Simon’s marriage is great, isn’t it? After years together, the arrival of longed-for daughter Millie sealed everything in place. A happy little family of three. And so what if Simon drinks a bit too much sometimes – Daisy’s used to it, she knows he’s letting off steam. Until one night at a party things spiral horribly out of control. And that happy little family of three will never be the same again.
This was another book full of twists and turns, a gripping storyline and a fabulous ending. Adele’s writing style is so easy to get along with, she tells the story from different characters points of view so you get all sides of the story. Its brilliant how it all goes together into one story.
I will continue to read the rest of Adele’s books, my next one is The State We’re In.
If you like to be immersed in a good book that you can’t put down. With a brilliant story line and one that takes you away from day to day life, Adele Parks is your lady.
